英语自由辩论赛词

although i felt delighted and excited, i declined it. why? why did i decline it? because i realized the results. what i will benefit from it is not in proportion to what i will lose. as a student, study must come first. you might say that student pageants are a stage for students to realize their dreams. but i want to tell you that the most efficient way to gain a bright future is to study hard but not to take part in student pageants. so i do not regret giving up that opportunity.

actually student pageants do more harm to society than to individuals. four years earlier in changchun, a student pageant called super boy came up, and i still remember the champion in changchun contest area was a team called a-one. as a tv-watching lover, i watched every show performed by a-one. then i was shocked when i heard the news that this team was put in the first place because in my mind, obviously the other contestants were far more versatile compared with a-one. two months later, i got the truth that this team had bribed all the judges with numerous money. that’s why they could be the first. another point is that it has side effects on our society. i mean corruption will get in the way of social progress. that will be the worst thing in this civilized society. do you agree? i’m sure you agree.

i have just talked about the bad effects that student pageants have on our society. corruption is only one point. another point is that student pageants may result in a great loss in professional aspects, such as scientific research, medical treatment and so on. now please allow me to take china’s spaceflight industry as an example. let us imagine if our spaceflight hero yangliwei had had the potential to sing and dance when he was a college student. and he had chozen to sing and dance as his career instead of to be a spaceman. yes, he might also be successful. but our country would lose an excellent spaceman and you might haven’t seen manned spacecraft shenzhou 5 rocket into the sky. so i believe everyone here will agree that a spaceman does more significant contributions to our country than a singer or dancer does.

you might say that you can benefit a lot from student pageants. but you’ll know the fact that every student pageant costs a lot of money if you have ever taken part. once i read a piece of news in china daily that a university student borrowed money from here and there in order to take part in a tv show called super girl. but unfortunately she failed to show and express herself on the stage. and at the same time she was unable to pay back the money she borrowed from her friends, classmates and relatives. so at last she had to quit school. how pathetic! maybe you think this poor guy deserves it. but how many of you would like to take part in student pageants? let us assume, you have plenty of money, will you take part in student pageants? will you?

yeah, you may take part when you’re rich, but i still have another reason to support my opinion.

student pageants are also a waste of time and vigor. most of the student pageants are not on during the summer and winter vacation. so more or less they have a bad impact on your study if you take part in student pageants during your college years. as a matter of fact, you just spend a little time showing yourself on tv, but it takes quite a lot of time and vigor for you to make a good preparation. well, at this point, will you make up your mind to get bad marks or even fail in the exams just for a student pageant? certainly you won’t.

to make a brief conclusion, student pageants are a waste of money, time and vigor. so we’re against student pageants.

i’m afraid i don’t agree. yes, there is no denying the fact that the existence of student pageants has its inevitability. but many unknown stories have killed our confidence in the justice of student pageants. for instance, a junior high school student, whose family is not that rich, paid quite a lot of money for transportation and board and lodging in order to take part in super girl. and it was exciting that she ranked the 10th in her contest area, whereas she was not known to the public. was it because she didn’t pay enough money or because her performance was inferior to someone else’s? unquestionably the former. are you of the same opinion as i?
