一、在語言風格上要平實、簡潔。切忌用誇張、比喻的手法引起誤解，而要給招聘者留下誠懇、務實的印象。招聘者也沒有時間閱讀過長的信件，所以整篇書信要簡短，能控制在一頁16開紙上為最好。
二、在句子結構上要多用長句。長句善於表達複雜事物，一方面有利於準確表達求職者的意圖，容易給招聘者留下思維條理清晰，邏輯性強的印象;另一方面，將大量資訊融合到一個句子中，很容易抓住招聘者的注意力，迫使其一口氣讀完，從而留下深刻印象。
三、從語氣上，求職信應寫得誠懇而積極，表達出自己對該單位的嚮往之情。切忌傲慢或過於自謙。
四、從內容上看，英文求職信一般要包括七個步驟：
1. introducing candidate (介紹候選身份)。在這一部分中，求職者要介紹自己的求職意向和個人情況，包括受教育、專業、工作履歷等方面的情況。
2. establishing credential (確定任職憑證) 在這部分，求職者要表明自己為什麼和憑什麼選擇這份工作，即自己的專業或目前從事的工作型別。
3. offering incentives (鼓勵接受申請)這一步是招聘者能否給應聘者面試機會的關鍵。應聘者可以從能力、經驗、個人專長、性格優勢等各方面進行闡述，鼓勵招聘者給自己一個面試的機會。
4. enclosing document (提及附加材料)。應聘往往會被要求或自願隨信附加一些證明檔案，比如各種證書和近期照片。最好再附上一個已寫好的回郵信封。以便儘快得到迴音。
